Coat Type: Thick, water-resistant double coat; the outer coat is coarse and slightly oily to repel water, with a dense undercoat for insulation.

Temperament: Gentle, intelligent, affectionate, patient, and quietly protective. Newfoundlands are famous for their sweet, “nanny-like” nature with children.

Energy Level: Moderate. Calm indoors but enjoys regular outdoor exercise and purposeful activities.

Health Issues: Hip Dysplasia, Elbow Dysplasia, Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis (SAS), Bloat (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus), Cystinuria. Regular vet care, weight management, and screening are important.

Exercise Requirements: Moderate; enjoys daily walks, swimming sessions, and light draft work like cart-pulling. Avoid overstrenuous exercise, especially in heat.
