History: The Shar Pei is an ancient Chinese breed, dating back more than 2,000 years. Originally used as a farm dog for hunting, guarding property, and occasionally fighting, its loose, wrinkled skin and bristly coat offered protection in confrontations. The breed nearly vanished in the mid-20th century but was revived through dedicated breeding efforts and has since become a distinctive and cherished companion around the world.
